Yehudit Malkiel
Qualifications:MA (ADIP), UKCP

Yehudit has an MA (hons) and an Advanced Diploma (ADIP) in Psychotherapy & Counselling from Regent’s College, London and is registered with UKCP. Previous qualifications include a BSc in Speech Science and an MA in English Literature. She is an integrative psychotherapist, primarily incorporating psychodynamic and humanistic approaches in her work.
She believes that we are strongly affected by our early experiences and influences, and that exploring and understanding these can help us to make different choices in the way in which we live our lives.

Yehudit has worked in a number of contexts both for the NHS and within the private sector. She tends to prefer longer term approaches which can allow for more in-depth work, but understands that some clients may benefit from more focused intervention of a fixed duration. She has lived in different countries and has an understanding of feeling culturally marginal or different. Her experience includes clients with issues centred around depression, self harming behaviours, body image problems and eating disorders.

Yehudit has done much work with clients relating to self and identity, including religious/spiritual identity and the effects on identity of becoming a parent. Yehudit has extensive training in working with victims of child sexual abuse and understands the complex, long-term effects of this kind of trauma. She works in a warm, accepting and non-judgemental way with a strong belief in the potential of psychotherapy to help to repair, heal and ultimately enable long-term positive changes in adult life.

Attention describes the process of perceiving internal or external stimuli and data. We require a narrow or broad focus of attention depending on the type of task we are carrying out. For example when thinking strategically or being creative, focusing on the wider picture means we gather a larger amount of data with which to shape our thoughts and intuitions. In this mode we connect different ideas and concepts, identify patterns and generally experience a flow of thoughts, feelings and ideas.
